E3 – True Crime: Hong Kong

red logo

“True Crime®: Hong Kong thrusts players into the role of undercover detective Wei Shen as he infiltrates one of Hong Kong’s largest and most dangerous Triad organizations. With orders to “do whatever it takes to become one of them,” players will engage in fast-paced martial arts combat, explosive gunfights, high-octane action driving, and acrobatic free-running chases as they navigate True Crime’s treacherous Hong Kong criminal underworld.

Inspired by classic Hollywood and Asian cinema style action thrillers, True Crime’s story unfolds as Wei’s reputation and influence grows within the Triad organization, and he becomes deeply torn between the lines of right and wrong. In order to keep his cover and continue ascending the gang’s ranks, Wei must balance his moral duty as a cop against the plethora of illegal activity he commits, including theft, extortion, drug running, smuggling guns, shaking down informants, kidnapping, human trafficking and more.

To stay alive, Wei must think like them, fight like them, and kill like them…”

Brink Preview – E3 2010

BRINK

Introduction

At PAX 09 we got our first look at the revolutionary title Brink. It brings a compelling story that takes place on the Ark, a man-made floating city that is on the brink of all-out civil war. Originally built as an experimental, self-sufficient and 100% “green” habitat, the reported rapid rise of the Earth’s oceans has forced the Ark to become home to not only the original founders and their descendants but also to thousands of refugees.

E3 – Fallout: New Vegas (Exclusive Unannounced Reveal!)

fallout new vegas cover

We spoke with Joe Sanabria at Bethesda’s booth at this year’s E3, getting some demo time with Fallout: New Vegas. Joe set us up with the demo, explaining the different casinos and how they are like separate cultures unto themselves. For instance, the Tops Casino is big on entertainment, while the Ultraluxe is all about opulence and Gomorrah is hedonistic heaven. Jolly tried his hand at a few games of chance, such as blackjack and slots, before deciding to check out combat.

E3 – Gears of War 3

gears 2011

Some notes from the E3 viewing:

• 4-player co-op throughout the entire campaign
• Marcus encounters a Locust ripping the arm off of a COG soldier, then proceeding to beat him with his own arm
• Interesting new mechanics, like planting a grenade on a body and kicking it in an enemy’s direction and sharing ammo and weapons in real-time with squad members
• Lambent stalks erupt from the ground, but severed pieces continue to crawl towards you until they are also finished off
• Lambent polyps spawn enemies until they are eradicated

lambent berserker

• Berserker returns in Lambent form; this version has vision and hops, demonstrating dangerous jumps

beastmode

Gears of War 3 Beast Mode
• Player can control all the beasts, such as tickers and butchers
• Stranded guys, then COGs, and finally heroes of the campaign serve as your nemeses in Beast Mode
• Overhead map for multiplayer
• Demo was of a courtyard level from Gears of War 2
• Played as a butcher, while other screens displayed tickers running in on kamikaze missions
• Played as a wretch for a bit
• On the second wave, the demonstrator played as the healer/priest kantus, which can revive others
• It was noted that during Beast Mode, the picture of the particular creature will display a number that details how many other players chose that creature; this helps enhance strategy
• We saw an execution taking place as a creature relentlessly pounded its fist into a fallen COG; it was explained that executions can be drawn out by continuously pressing the appropriate button

explosive digger

• We examined the boomer tree, unveiling the savage boomer, which launches diggers (burrowing explosives), the grinder, which wields a minigun, and the mauler, which pairs up with a shield and a flail
• We saw the armored kantus, a variation that is resistant to bullets and can dual-wield
• The serapedo was examined; this centipede-like creature has dangerous electric extensions (antennae?) and is taken down by assaulting its glowing tail and working your way up

E3 – Sniper: Ghost Warrior

Sniper: Ghost Warrior Cover Art

After Spec Ops: The Line we sat down with City Interactive’s Lukasz Mach and Sniper: Ghost Warrior producer Michel Sroczynski for a look at their upcoming FPS title. As we jumped right in with S: GW, Michel explained the three difficulties and what they entailed. The easiest difficulty is very arcade-like, highlighting enemies in red and providing a red aiming reticle that shows exactly where your rounds will land. The medium difficulty nixed these highlights, but altogether is not entirely taxing. The hard setting, however, goes one step further and requires the player to take note of such variables as the bullet’s velocity, taking care to mind the measurements in order to survive. The producer admitted that he himself was no expert at the game, so we got a look at the Easy setting.

E3 – Spec Ops: The Line

welcome

We started the official expo today with cameras at the ready, room for swag, and a few hours of sleep after the crazy Activision conference. We started off heading to the very first E3 demo of Rock Band 3. We’ve got a video (shhh!), but it probably won’t get posted until tomorrow or so. I’ll let you know if that changes. After many setbacks, we hurried over to 2K a bit late. We missed out on our scheduled appointment for Civilization 5, but we made it to 2K’s Spec Ops: The Line.

E3 – Day One

Greetings, everyone. Jolly and I are running around the E3 expo, trying to make our appointments despite being held over late by the very first Rock Band 3 demo. So far we’ve taken an exclusive video of Rock Band 3, we’ve sat in for Spec Ops: The Line, and we’ve had hands-on with Sniper: Ghost Warrior. We have some press kits that we’ll toss on here so you can see some of the cool stuff we’ve been seeing. Oh, and we MIGHT even have some demos for Spec Ops and/or Sniper, so keep an eye open.

Well, we’re back to running around. Jolly and I need to check out some controllers, then we’ll see what’s up with Civ 5. Look for more content throughout the day!
