Sacred 2:Fallen Angel Review

Introduction:
A giant, open-ended and seamless world, filled with gorgeously crafted detail, hundreds of dungeons, treacherous opponents and a variety of challenging quests. Sacred 2: Fallen Angel provides numerous unique items that can be gathered and improved.
At least that is how it was described to me. In truth the game play is addictive and the co-op is quite seamless, but something about the quality of the graphics seems lacking. There is so much to do that a player can feel overwhelmed at times. While the character creation is not very customizable, the character development and various loot types and qualities make for an interesting time. Sit back and grab your floating lizard’s reins, here’s the world of Ancaria in Sacred 2.

Gameplay:
Hack and slash! How can you go wrong with this? Well for starters the camera has been an issue for others such as Too Human, but Sacred 2 handles some of the problems others have faced in a unique way. Some object is in your way like a tree top or a roof? How about we just put a hole in it so you can see whats happening on the other side. Though there are times where the camera cannot make up its mind what it wants to do. Combat is less like your average adventure game and more like a party RPG, such as Baldur’s Gate on PC.
The customization in character creation is very limiting, but the large number of equipment slots on the character and the vast amount of gear to put in each of them does wonders to make the development of your avatar in the world of Ancaria unique.
Questing! That is what these games are all about. Kill the dragon and save the world. Well Sacred 2 is full of quest, over 600 in fact. They range from anything like a simple “fetch me this wine”, to escorting a widow to her cursed lover’s grave site so they can be together forever - while at the same time attempting to find the lost instruments for Blind Guardian so that they can have their last concert of the tour here on Ancaria. Not to mention that you can play through the game two different ways, trying to save the world or trying to aid in its destruction.
Extras:
Co-operative multiplayer, I can’t say it enough that is what gamers want the most now. And four player co-op is even better, this is exactly what Sacred 2 brings to the table. Its the primary reason that so many gamers were excited about it. Play with three of your best friends or total strangers on xbox live or hook up with one other person from the couch you share. Either way is possible.
Co-op not your thing? How about PVP, that’s player verses player. A little bit of ganking or dueling whatever you like, never fear my light hearted friends. It’s easy enough to avoid the PVP by just not enabling it in the game you host.
Fighting from horseback is finally a viable option. In most games that feature mounts they are only used to get from one place to another faster. They are used for that as well as altering the way you fight. You can even fight from mount back. Horses are available early on in the game but later your character has a chance to get a unique mount that is special just for that class. So you could have a Tiger or some other mystic creature to ride around on and look cool while doing it.

Conclusion:
While a solid and addictive game for the RPG/Hack and Slash fan, Sacred 2 leaves something to be desired for your average player. Though for some that is not always a bad thing. With easily hundreds of hours of game play and six very different characters an addicted gamer could spend his whole summer closed up with beautiful renditions of angels with blue pig tails. As long as they can forgive the flaws and repetitive quest then they will be able to enjoy some of last year’s latest Blind Guardian music and Ascaron’s unique humor. Sacred 2 is my game for the summer of 2009.
Score:6.5
